Personable Psychiatry in Boston, Massachusetts and New York
It’s not easy finding a good psychiatrist in today’s world.
I believe that good psychiatric care is centered around trusting your patients and taking the time to get to know them.
It can be confusing to hear about diagnoses and medications as a patient. I also believe in educating my patients about the limitations of psychiatry and the inherent uncertainty with psychiatric treatment.
Whether or not I treat my patients with therapy and/or medications, I believe my role as their psychiatrist is to empower my patients with the tools needed to live their lives to the fullest.
What conditions do you treat?
I have experience treating a wide range of conditions. Often, there can be overlap with psychiatric conditions - being able to carefully identify these conditions and individualize treatment is the main cornerstone of good psychiatric care. Here are some conditions that I treat:
Anxiety (Generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder)
Burnout
Depression
ADHD
Personality Disorders (Borderline Personality Disorder)
Impulse-control disorders
Bipolar disorder
Suicidal Ideation
Why boutique private practice?
Psychiatric treatment is complicated. Not everyone seeking psychiatric care can have their needs met with routine care.
Many people may desire or want a more personalized approach, where they have access to more frequent appointments or have their doctor available to answer health-related issues outside of appointments.
It is also increasingly rare to find psychiatrists who can meet more frequently with patients and provide therapy services.
As an additional example, starting medications can be a frustrating endeavor of trial-and-error that requires flexible adjustment and strategic planning given an individual’s own biological make-up to medication sensitivities and efficacy.
If any of these appeal to you, boutique care (also known as concierge medicine) may be appropriate for you.
-
Do you have a specific therapeutic style?
I have been trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, ACT, psychodynamic, and psychoanalytic treatment) but I like to use a combination of them in order to best suit your needs. Regardless of therapeutic style, I always try to maintain a sense of friendliness and honesty when it comes to your psychiatric care.
-
Do you see people virtually?
Yes! I can see patients virtually as long as they are residing in Massachusetts at the time of their appointment. I also have an office in Coolidge Corner in Brookline, MA if you would like to be seen in the office.
-
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance plans. There are some insurance plans that can provide out-of-network reimbursement for my visits. I will provide a monthly superbill to facilitate for this if you are interested in obtaining out-of-network reimbursement.
-
Do you have an ideal patient?
Most of my current patients are college-aged or young professionals trying to seek support for all kinds of issues, such as substance use, ADHD, or job- or school-related burnout. Since I am not a child psychiatrist, I cannot see patients younger than 18.
This being said, I do NOT have an ideal patient! Taking the first steps to see a psychiatrist is quite courageous and I pride myself on working with patients at whatever stage in their mental health journey they are in.
What services do you provide in your practice?
-
Consultation Services
I provide various consultations for anyone interested in my expertise in psychiatric diagnosis, medication management, and therapy.
-
Psychiatric Services for Ongoing Management
The session times below are general guidelines and may not reflect the true frequency we end up meeting. I will discuss how frequent we will meet based on your availability, the severity of your condition, and if we are actively adjusting medications that warrant more frequent check-ups.
-
Free Consultation (15 min)
Not sure what you need and if I’d be a good fit for your current issues? I’d be happy to talk to you briefly to see if the services I provide are what you need.
-
Medication Management (30 min sessions)
Individuals I see for medication management typically see me once every 4-6 weeks for 30 minutes at a time. This may be a good fit for people who already have a therapist whom they meet with weekly or those who are not interested in therapy services.
-
Initial Diagnostic Consultation (60 - 90+ min)
Individuals interested in ongoing psychiatric management will first meet with me for an initial diagnostic consultation. Here, we will discuss your current and past issues. We will also discuss any psychiatric medications you are currently taking or have taken in the past. I do not force anyone to take any medications they are not interested in taking, but I will offer recommendations as to which medications could be beneficial to you. Depending on the complexity of your case, this consultation may last longer than 90 minutes and may take multiple sessions to complete. If you have any past treaters, I may reach out to them to complete this assessment. At the end of the consultation, I will provide diagnostic impressions, treatment recommendations, and will give us the opportunity to decide if we would be a good fit going forward for ongoing treatment together.
-
Integrated Therapy (50 min sessions)
Some individuals may be interested in integrated therapy if they are interested in having me both prescribe medications and provide therapeutic services, which may be more convenient for some. I typically see individuals for 50 minutes every 1-2 weeks for integrated therapy.
-
Second-Opinion Consultation (60 - 90+ min)
If you have questions about a psychiatric diagnosis or treatment plan that you are on, I would be happy to provide a second-opinion consultation to give you more clarity on your treatment. I will typically reach out to your current treater as well in order to complete this assessment.
Interested? I’d be happy to talk with you!
Practice Update (October 2024): due to limited availability, I will be adding interested individuals to a waiting list.
